Sikh Heritage Museum Hosts Cultural Discovery Day!

On 22 September 2025, the South Asian Studies Institute (SASI) hosted Cultural Discovery Day at the Sikh Heritage Museum (SHM) as part of the City of Abbotsford’s Cultural Day programming!

SASI Museum Assistant, Makenna Brar, led guided tours of the grounds of the National Historic Site, Gur Sikh Temple with a fun scavenger hunt activity encouraging listeners to fill in the blanks based on the information they were learning!

Following this, there was a viewing of a short educational video and a further talk as well as a question-and-answer session with Makenna inside the ground floor legacy hall. Visitors were then given the opportunity to explore the SHM’s current exhibit, “Chandra Bodalia’s Legacy: The History and Heritage of Gurdwaras in BC,” also located on the ground floor of the National Historic Site.

After absorbing the rich history of the National Historic Site and learning about the Sikh Pioneers who built the Gurdwara themselves, SASI Director, Dr. Jatinder Mann, led visitors upstairs into the Darbar Hall where he gave an introduction to the Sikh faith.

At the end, visitors were able to trade in their worksheets for a delicious chocolate prize!
