SLG leaders learn about UDL

Submitted by Navneet Sidhu

Training sits at the heart of our SLG Program because strong facilitation doesn’t happen by accident — it’s built through intentional professional development. Our student leaders are continuously developing the skills to guide collaborative learning, ask purposeful questions, and use evidence-based learning strategies that help students become more independent and confident learners.

In the last training session, we were fortunate to have Claire Hay from the Teaching and Learning Centre lead a session on Universal Design for Learning (UDL), further strengthening this foundation. By exploring ways to offer multiple ways for students to engage, access information, and demonstrate understanding, leaders are learning to design sessions that are more inclusive, flexible, and responsive to different learning preferences and needs. The result? Study sessions where more students can participate meaningfully, feel supported, and find strategies that actually work for them.

Here are some leader testimonials:

“I think this training session was really eye opening and help me learn about new perspectives to involve in teaching.”

“The part that I found most helpful was the different ways on how to make an inclusive environment.”

“It was helpful to learn how I can make my sessions better.”
