Dr. Amandeep Sandhu, the BC Regional Innovation Chair in Canada-India Business and Economic Development which is housed in the Centre for Indo-Canadian Studies gave his first lecture as part of UFV’s Research Lecture Series. Dr. Sandhu’s lecture, which was hosted by the Office of Research, Engagement and Graduate Studies was titled The Great Economic Transformation of the 21st Cebtury: How Globalization of Service Jobs Will Determine Your Career and Life. In his talk, Dr. Sandhu addressed the now rising practice of outsourcing white collar jobs globally and framed them within the rapidly changing 21st century global capitalism. He also discussed how the jobs and careers of people in advanced and emerging economies are impacted by this trend.
The talk was well attended and included faculty, staff, students and community members who all engaged in some lively discussions and networking after the lecture. Dr. Amandeep Sandhu had been named the University of the Fraser Valley’s new BC Regional Innovation Chair in Canada–India Business and Economic Development and took up his post on July 1. Dr. Sandhu will also be a faculty member in the UFV School of Business. The research chair’s mandate is to help local businesses capitalize on opportunities in India by providing market intelligence and advice.
