This year, the SASI was pleased to travel its original Haq and History exhibit, curated in partnership with the Royal BC Museum, to three schools in Abbotsford’s school district #34. The three schools, Eugene Reimer, Rick Hansen and Abbotsford Traditional Middle School displayed the exhibit panels and engaged in additional learning about the significance of Punjabi Canadian histories across British Columbia.
According to Sukh Bains, a teacher at Eugene Reimer, “The exhibit was an overwhelming success. It was nice to combine the videos and the displays so students could get more personalized experiences. The students made personal connections to their parents/grandparents working hard in the mills and farms.”
The exhibit highlights experiences and stories from and about South Asian Canadians by documenting their lives, including highlights about work, home life and keeping cultural traditions alive in BC.
