Easing student transitions through healthy competition

You got game? Don’t answer just yet, we want to find out at the first ever KIN Cup.

The KIN Cup is a series of events that will challenge teams to work together on physical and mental competitions. Now, before you get on the phone with Kevin Durant, it is best you know that the teams will be randomly selected.

The event will take place from September 26th-30th, with a grand finale obstacle course and BBQ taking place on the final day (See schedule below).

While there is an actual KIN Cup that will be awarded to the winners, the main goal is to have fun and get to know your fellow kinesiology peers

“It’s a way to get involved to learn more about your classmates, faculty and staff,” said Marissa Corea, kinesiology student and current President of the Kinesiology Student Association (KINSA).

“We want to get everyone involved to help build friendships that will help ease the transition for new and returning students.”

The event has been organized by KINPALS, a new mentorship program that pairs upper year Kinesiology student with new incoming students.

When asked to disclose the details for the events that will transpire, organizers were tight lipped.

“All I can say is that the events are going to bring our KIN department much closer, promote healthy competition and be lots of fun,” Says Joanna Sheppard, Kinesiology faculty member helping to facilitate the Kin Cup.

“Research shows that students are more successful when they have built social and peer support networks, this event is one way to get students interacting and forming these supports.”

This event is open to all students interested in Kinesiology, whether you are taking a minor or full-time student in the program.

To register, you can click here or come visit organizers at the KIN Cup booth on the CEP A Campus in Chilliwack. They will be located across from the Tim Hortons from September 12th -16th.
