Announcing new Open Education Micro Grant Program

Written by Claire Hay, Teaching and Learning Specialist

Recently funded through UFV’s Strategic Initiatives Fund, the UFV Library and Teaching and Learning Centre are excited to announce a new Open Education Micro Grant Program (OEMG) for 2021-22.  This program is designed to support faculty adapting and developing open education resources (OERs) that will be used in UFV courses and beyond.  Funding will be allocated to hire Open Education Student Assistants who will work under faculty mentorship to complete tasks that lead to the creation or adaptation of OE resources.

These tasks may include Pressbooks conversions, editing and revision, image and interactive item creation, formation of test banks, or other tasks. Successful faculty project proposals will receive funding for 100-150 student hours.  Our hope is that this fund will promote the increased use of OERs at UFV and build faculty capacity for OER development and adaptation.  The OEMG will also provide significant experiential value to student hires by allowing them to develop transferrable and knowledge specific skills that they can use in their programs and into their careers following graduation.

The formal Call for Proposals will be issued on 15 November 2021 with a closing date of 28 January 2022.  The funding period for successful applicants is April – August 2022.
