Educational Conundrum of the Week – Transferable Technologies.

A 47 year-old student came in to ETS. He is being re-skilled through WorkSafeBC and is new to UFV.  He just learned how to use email in his ENGL 090 class. He said he couldn’t believe he lived without it.  What transferable technologies might students take away from your courses?

  1. Learning to be better at searching is a skill that all of us can improve on right along with students; skills such as expanding and tracking search terms, and using clues in search results to dig further, are just a few things. I’m sure we could make a whole list here 🙂

    • Hi Marcel,

Yes, searching for info is an essential skill that always needs developing. It is tough to teach formally in the classroom, but can be developed just through trial-and-error. The list would be endless and I don’t personally have a go-to site. Google just got fined $2.7 billion for padding their search results to favour their products (or something like that). It’s all about digital literacy.
