The Pacific Regional Soil Science Society is partnering with Fraser Valley chapter of the BC Institute of Agrologists to host the annual Spring Workshop and AGM. The event will be held on Saturday March 7 at the University of the Fraser Valley.
The theme of the day will be “Soils in the Field” and the morning sessions will be focused on what it means to be a qualified soil scientist. They have invited Dr. Maja Krzic (UBC) to present on work conducted by the Canadian Soil Science Society Soil Education Committee. The committee has compiled information on the current state of post-secondary soil science education in Canada and collected interesting data on emerging gaps in the education program vs. employer/industry needs. Following her presentation they plan to host a panel to gain perspectives on this topic from experienced soil scientists working in different Areas of Practice. Dieter Geesing, UFV Agriculture Instructor, will be part of this panel session.
