As we come to the end of another semester, I would like to take a moment to recognize the achievements of our Spanish language learners. Specifically, I would like to highlight the outstanding efforts of those who completed SPAN 302 Advanced Spanish II – Composition. This course not only meets the advanced-level requirements for those who will earn an Advanced Spanish Certificate but also brings others closer to completing a Minor in Spanish.
As part of this advanced-level Spanish writing course, the students undertook a project that went beyond more traditional assignments. They created a collection of zines that explored the depths of Hispanic culture. These zines are not just academic exercises; they are intended to serve as learning materials for future Spanish students, with the permission of the students who created them. Through this project, the students not only constructed knowledge but also shared it with others beyond the confines of the classroom.
The content of these zines is diverse. From explorations of fashion and the delights of Mexican cuisine to an insightful film critique, reviews of cultural celebrations, and a reflection on the profound impact of Latin music on the American musical landscape, each zine reflects its creator’s linguistic and cultural fluency.
The impressive work of these students will inspire others to learn Spanish. Congratulations to all the students who completed SPAN 302!
