Faculty Focus: 4 reasons why Certified Dental Assistants love their job

Erin Sawatzky decided to become a Certified Dental Assistant because she wanted to be a part of a professional certification body that allowed her to build a career educating people about the importance of oral health care. She graduated from the Certified Dental Assistant program in 1997.

Sawatzky began her practice as a Certified Dental Assistant and worked in the field for 4 years before moving onto complete additional education as a hygienist.

“I knew I was ready for another avenue in the dental field. After working as a Certified Dental Assistant, the experience I gained in patient management, time management, and understanding the operation of a private dental practice helped me expand my career,” says Sawatzky.

Sawatzky was previously employed by Montrose Dental Centre and Clayburn Dental in Abbotsford before she returned to her roots and began teaching as a sessional instructor in 2011. Sawatzky is now a full time faculty member in the Certified Dental Assistant program at the University of the Fraser Valley.

Here are 4 reasons Erin Sawatzky loved her job as a Certified Dental Assistant:
