UFV Walk-Out for Afghan Women — August 15, 2024

Afghan women have been banned from attending university since December 2022 and high school since September 2021. Now, girls older than Grade 3 are banned from attending to school. This event will demonstrate UFV’s support for Afghan women and girls during this time of gender apartheid in Afghanistan.

We are grateful to be welcoming back special guest speaker and UFV student, Sahar Maqsoodi.

Sahar Maqsoodi is an Afghan women’s rights activist, writer, and senior student of political science and governance. She is the Communications Manager and NexusTalk host for HerStory Afghanistan and a Youth Leader and Board Member for Pathways to Leadership with the Racialized, Immigrant, and Refugee Women’s Society. With a rich background in advocacy, Sahar has worked with organizations such as the British Columbia Council for International Cooperation and Girls Toward Leadership. She is also the recipient of the Girl Up Storytelling Award, highlighting her commitment to using narrative as a tool for empowerment and change.
