CBC and BBC documentaries feature CHASI researcher

In May 2021, CHASI Faculty Associate Dr. Beaulieu conducted a ground penetrating radar investigation at the former Kamloops Indian Residential School which revealed 200 “targets of interest” — potentially human burial sites. Those findings led to significant international media attention on Canada’s residential school system and the stories of the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc First Nation. They also led to investigations at other former residential schools, and the finding of hundreds of other more potential grave sites across Canada.

CBC’s The Fifth Estate featured Dr. Beaulieu in an episode titled The Reckoning: Secrets Unearthed by Tk’emlups te Secwepemc, where she spoke about her findings. The documentary is available to stream on CBC Gem.

Dr. Beaulieu is also interviewed in a second documentary from BBC Our World, Canada’s Missing Children, which highlights the history of the Kamloops Indian Residential School and the stories of its survivors. You can watch Canada’s Missing Children below.
