Students in Dr. Jelena Brcic’s BUS 408 (Teamwork in Organizations) class, launched a 72 hour campaign to raise awareness for a mental health and wellness service offered through the Studentcare network at UFV called, Empower Me. During this time of great upheaval and uncertainty, the group felt that their fellow students should be made aware of this incredible service.
Empower Me allows students to connect with qualified counsellors, consultants, and life coaches for a variety of issues. All UFV students who are a SUS Plan member are entitled to sessions delivered in person, by telephone, by video-counselling, or by e-counselling.
The service is available 24/7, 365 and is confidential, multilingual, culturally sensitive, gender inclusive, and faith inclusive.
Students can receive support for issues of any kind (no issue is too big or too small), including, relationships, family care, depression, anxiety, addictions, stress, work conflicts, and more. There is also access to academic life services (ie, life coaching, financial planning, and nutritional counselling).
The team’s campaign reached over 1,000 online users, and also received a significant number of comments and messages from current UFV students expressing their support. A number of comments confirmed the group’s assumption that many UFV students are unaware of this service.
