School of Business Students Compete in the UFV Student Research Day

Brigid Egan-Pimnliett, Jeevin Phagura | 2016 Student Research Day – Micro Lectures

Yesterday was the annual UFV Student Research Day, hosted by the Research, Engagement, and Graduate Studies Office. Students from around the institution who conduct research under the supervision of a UFV faculty member may take part in a Micro Lecture series, Poster Presentation, or both. The School of Business had multiple student research groups enter the competition, and are pleased to announce that one group won an award.

One student group, under Associate Professor David Dobson, collaborated with Tourism Abbotsford on a marketing research project. The purpose of this applied research was to study the experience and behavior of visitors to Abbotsford, and to find out what types of visitor experiences would help develop the destination brand and overall experience. The team at Tourism Abbotsford were very impressed with the work the students presented.

Delaney Minor & Manjot Pandher | 2016 Dean, Faculty of Professional Studies Award Winners

Students, Delaney Minor, Manjot Pander, and Seth Stenner conducted a study titled “The Truth Behind RateMyProfessors.com“, for which they won the Dean, Faculty of Professional Studies Award. This study sought to find the truth about the ratings of professors. The takeaway from this research is that students who are using Rate My Professors as the sole resource for choosing professors might be misled by the personal biases of raters. This group also worked under the guidance of Associate Professor David Dobson.

Well done to all the teams who entered and participated in this event!
