UFV has officially crossed the finish line! On August 25, 2025, the university came together to celebrate the go-live of Brightspace, our new Learning Management System (LMS). After years of planning, consultation, and hard work, Brightspace is now the digital home for teaching and learning at UFV.
CIO Katie Tuck compared the project to “running a marathon” — with plenty of hills and blisters along the way — but reminded everyone that the journey was always about people. Faculty piloted courses on tight timelines, IT teams worked tirelessly on migrations and support, and the Teaching and Learning Centre kept pedagogy at the heart of it all.
Dr. Awneet Sivia brought humor and heart to the celebration, likening the project to a big family vacation: picking the right destination (Brightspace, proudly Canadian!), choosing how to travel (change inspiration over change management), and inviting the best travel buddies (UFV faculty, IT, and D2L). The result? Outlaws turned into in-laws, and a family that knows how to laugh, collaborate, and create together.
From D2L, Dimo and Rachel reminded us that this isn’t just a tech upgrade — it’s the start of a new journey. Brightspace opens up flexible, personalized, and engaging learning opportunities for students while supporting faculty with intuitive tools. They praised UFV’s passion and teamwork and promised to be partners every step of the way.
The launch was more than a milestone — it was a celebration of resilience, collaboration, and community. Here’s to Brightspace and to the next exciting chapter for UFV!
