Unleashing Knowledge: Open Education Week 2025

During Open Education Week 2025 (March 3-7, 2025), representatives from the UFV Library and Teaching and Learning Centre hosted 3 events celebrating all things ‘open.’ Including the development of Open Education Resources (OER). OER are materials that support student learning but come with no cost. These include open textbooks, online resources, library resources, open software. In collaboration with UFV Student Union Society, we hosted a Student Tabling Event to capture student information on their textbook costs and to raise awareness about open education resources. Aashima Marwaha, Open Education Student Assistant, hosted these 3 tabling events with Roxy Granikovas (UFV-SUS Vice President, External).

Janelle Sztuhar, Scholarly Communication and Copyright Librarian, hosted an online workshop designed to introduce open education to faculty and to provide support in searching for open education resources to support student learning. In this Zoom workshop, faculty explored BC Open Collection, which is an online repository of OER supported by BCcampus.

And finally, on March 7, we hosted an Open Education Showcase and Celebration highlighting the open education resources created by UFV faculty and students as part of the Open Education Micro Grants Program (funded by Strategic Initiatives Fund). We would like to acknowledge funding from BCcampus for refreshments at this celebration.
