Educators Journey Towards Reconciliation

Description
The Educators Journey Towards Reconciliation is a two-day workshop where we will go through a journey to discover challenges and best practices in decolonizing our education practice and spaces. Through reflecting on your experiences and knowledge of Indigenous history and issues, we will work through activities based on decolonization, Indigenization, and reconciliation practices. Our journey continues to create a culturally safe learning environment and Indigenizing through reconciling Indigenous worldviews, ways of knowing and being. We will practice reciprocity, respect, responsibility, and relevance throughout our journey together.

Upon registration, you will be added to the blackboard course to complete a few reflection activities prior to the first in-person session.

This workshop sets a foundation for and is a prerequisite for the Weaving Knowledge Systems workshop.

Weaving Knowledge Systems       

Dates: May, 17, 18, 19, 2023
Time: 9am to 4pm
Location: UFV Abbotsford Campus – G124

Description
Weaving Knowledge Systems (formerly Indigenizing the Curriculum) is a three-day workshop that provides you with hands-on experience and resources that will bring together Indigenous and Western worldviews based on your subject area. We will explore experiential activities to weave cultural safety/humility, Indigenous Ways of knowing and being, Indigenous worldviews, into your course(s)/practice. Bring at least one course syllabi, lesson plan(s), any resources etc., and a laptop/tablet. This workshop is taught from an Indigenous perspective/voice.

Upon registration, you will be added to the blackboard course to access resources.

**This workshop is designed for those who have previously completed a course/workshop on Decolonization. Priority will be given to those who have completed the Educator’s Journey Towards Reconciliation. Holistic Approaches to Teaching and Learning Workshop

Date: Thursday, May 25, 2023
Time: 9:00 am – 3:00 pm
Location: UFV Abbotsford Campus – G124

Indigenous peoples of turtle island have strived to live a balanced lifestyle. This balance relates to the worldview that everything is interconnected. Holism involves the four domains of self: mind (to know), heart (to belong), body (to do), and spirit (to be). Participants will learn about holism, how to use it as a teaching and learning tool, and ways to create an inclusive assessment tool.
