LIYSF 2023: Day 10

Welcome to Day 10 of LIYSF!  Today we started off the morning with a lecture from Professor Sir Steven Cowley, a theoretical physicist, an international authority on fusion energy and a Princeton Professor of Astrophysical Sciences. Dr. Cowley discussed the science and prospects to accelerate fusion development and design and build the first fusion pilot plants.

After the lecture we had a lunch break and then another lecture by Professor Sarah Gurr, Chair in Food Security at Exeter University. Dr. Gurr talked about fungi and their role in our society, their age, diversity and their impact on global food insecurity. She discussed some of her recent work in the lab looking at modelling the movement of fungi in response to climate change. She talked about the tasks needed to mitigate the impact of crop disease to ensure global food security.

To end off the day we had an event called the adventure evening! We got into teams of 10 and went around the Kensington area and Hyde Park to get clues to complete our challenge. We visited different areas of the park and got clues from staff members. We ran about 8 km that night and our team was the second team to complete the challenge!

Thank you for following along, stay tuned for Day 11!
