UFV’s Let’s Talk Science Outreach Program has been very busy and there are no signs of slowing down! Let’s Talk Science Coordinator, Emily Ell, and her team have managed to reach over 340 youths this semester. They have been invited to schools across the Fraser Valley and hosted workshops at both the Chilliwack and Sardis libraries. The response has been so amazing that they’ve been invited back again in the new year!
The Let’s Talk Science Outreach program is offered free of charge thanks to more than 3,500 post-secondary student volunteers at over 45 post-secondary outreach sites, including our team here at UFV. Our team is here to work with your group or class to help youth develop positive attitudes toward STEM, while building critical skills and gaining career awareness. We will visit your classroom and home-school groups from preschool to high school with curriculum-aligned STEM activities. We also offer community group visits such as Scouts and Girl Guides and provide children in rural areas access to exciting, hands-on STEM learning experiences because we will come to you!
If you would like to request a FREE visit please fill out our online request form at: https://outreach.letstalkscience.ca/ufv/contact-us/request-a-visit.html. If you have any questions, please email us at ufvletstalkscience@gmail.com.
Are you a UFV student interested in volunteering with Let’s Talk Science?
All Let’s Talk Science Outreach volunteers attend an introductory training session that focuses on how to create and deliver impactful, engaging hands-on STEM activities. We cover topics such as theories of learning, how to introduce yourself, and classroom management. Additional optional training and professional development is also offered periodically, both locally and online. As a volunteer with Let’s Talk Science, you will gain skills and receive training that can be immediately put into practice and will support your early career. Please contact Emily at ufvletstalkscience@gmail.com.
