It’s tax season! Cybercriminals often use this time to send emails or text messages that appear to come from employers, payroll teams, or the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). These messages are designed to trick you into sharing personal information or clicking unsafe links.
Red flags to watch out for
- Emails that claim to provide your T4 or other tax forms as an attachment or download link
- Messages that appear to come from Payroll, HR, or the CRA (always check the sender address)
- Ask you to “confirm” or “update” personal banking/financial information
- Create urgency, such as “Immediate action required” or “Final notice”
How to Access Your T4
Your T4 and other tax documents are available through the myUFV portal. To access: log into myUFV and click on the Employee Dashboard card.
If you need more help, see: Tax Information (UFV Payroll) and Download T4 Tax Receipt (UFV IT Services Knowledgebase)
Tips to Stay Safe
- Access your tax information by navigating directly to the myUFV employee portal
- The CRA will never demand payment by e-transfer, cryptocurrency, or gift cards.
- Review the CRA’s guide to scams and fraud
If You Receive a Suspicious Message
Forward the message to phishreport@ufv.ca. Do not click links or open attachments. Do not reply to the message.
