Business Students Win Two Prestigious UFV Research Awards

UFV Research, Engagement, and Graduate Studies Office hosted their annual Undergraduate Research Excellence Award night, on May 29th. The School of Business is proud to announce that our students won two of the prestigious awards.

Under Associate Professor, David Dobson’s supervision, Keith Greter, Jessa Leroux, Nicholas Point and Whitney Point conducted a study on improving the engagement and satisfaction of a member-driven not-for-profit organization. These students were able to contribute valuable information to an association that works extremely hard to be a resource for many local businesses. They received the 2017 Industry Liaison Research Award. Pictured above are Nicholas and Whitley Point receiving the award for this study.

Chelsey & Jonathan Ens | UFV Undergraduate Research Excellence Award Recipients

Chelsey and Jonathan Ens studied the effects of message framing on seafood purchase decisions. Their study indicated that negatively framed messages were more effective than positively framed messages on consumer seafood purchasing behaviour. They believed that negative framing was more effective because emphasizing the elimination of something harmful is more real to the consumer as they are the ones consuming the product. Their study recommended that marketers and grocery stores list more information about where the seafood comes from and the chemicals that might have been used to raise the seafood. They received the 2017 Undergraduate Research Excellence Award for this study supervised by David Dobson. Student winners are pictured with Dr. Tracy Ryder-Glass, Dean of the Faculty of Professional Studies.

Well done to these Business students!
