Maureen Wideman appointed Acting Associate Vice President, Teaching and Learning

Dear Colleagues,

I am very pleased to announce that Dr. Maureen Wideman will take on the role of Acting Associate Vice President, Teaching and Learning, effective August 1, 2025, to assist while Dr. Awneet Sivia takes on the Acting Vice Provost Academic role.

Dr. Wideman brings decades of experience in higher education, previously leading institutional and provincial initiatives in Ontario, before joining UFV in 2013 as the Director of Teaching and Learning. During her tenure at UFV as Director and later as AVP, Dr. Wideman transformed the division from its early days as an educational technology hub to a robust and thriving Teaching and Learning Centre (TLC). The TLC, under Dr. Wideman’s forward-thinking leadership and vision, now hosts a complement of learning specialists, learning designers, and curriculum developers. Dr. Wideman’s accomplishments include the Launch program for new faculty, K Building re-design, Accessibility Week and Toolkit, PD Day, the Online Task Force, and increasing the number of institutional and provincial teaching awards. The TLC, under Dr. Wideman’s leadership, received the Teamwork Award in 2021 for providing support and leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic. The division also includes the Supported Learning Groups (SLG) program, reflecting Dr. Wideman’s value for peer-to-peer learning models to improve student achievement. Dr. Wideman’s steadfast commitment to elevating teaching and learning at UFV was and continues to be a symbol of her powerful impact as a leader.

I am grateful to Dr. Wideman for accepting this opportunity to continue to advance quality education at UFV, and I thank her for her service to the institution. Please join me in welcoming (back) Dr. Maureen Wideman to this role.

Sincerely,
Awneet Sivia
