De Luna will have chapter in book on new competencies and technologies in Spanish language teaching

A chapter by Dr. María Eugenia De Luna, an associate professor in the Modern Languages Institute, has been accepted for publication in the forthcoming open-access, peer-reviewed book Nuevas Competencias y Nuevas Tecnologías en la Enseñanza de la Lengua, la Literatura y la Cultura. (New Competencies and New Technologies in the Teaching of Language, Literature, and Culture), published by California State University, Bakersfield, and MacEwan University.

Dr. De Luna’s chapter, “De la Teoría a la Acción Digital: Kits de Redes Sociales Como Evaluación Crítica en la Enseñanza del Español (From Theory to Digital Action: Social Media Kits as Critical Assessment in Spanish Language Teaching), presents an innovative pedagogical approach developed in her course Español: lengua, sociedad y migración (Spanish: Language, Society, and Migration).

The work explores how students, working entirely in Spanish, can transform sociolinguistic analysis into creative, socially relevant digital campaigns. By integrating critical pedagogy, digital literacy, and global citizenship, students design “social media kits” that address issues such as linguistic justice, heritage language preservation, and migrant workers’ rights, connecting classroom learning to real-world contexts.
