UFV Theatre presents Spotlight Festival Dec 1-2. This Fringe-style event celebrates the end of the fall semester with performances by talented students from acting and performance classes, showing off their best work in this free showcase.
The festival is proud to present a double feature of student work with The Hideout and You Are Not Alone playing back to back both days.
The Hideout stars Nik De Leon, Sabrina Morgan, Shivam Duggal, and Braydan Dades.
Duggal wrote and directs the performance about two German soldiers and two Jewish sisters in Nazi Germany. What do they have in common? Hatred, perhaps, but that’s not the only thing. With their whole company outmaneuvered by the progressing Allied forces, the two soldiers abandon their post and find refuge in a house downtrodden with ruin, loss and desolation. But they aren’t the only ones there. They aren’t even the first ones there. Sisters Edith and Emma, also hunkered down in this old house, now share something more than just hate with these soldiers — the confines of their hideout. Rife with apprehension, the quartet confront, contend, and commiserate amongst themselves about their purpose, duty, and fate. The play explores sentiments that bear resemblance to the 21st century anti-work movement, echoing the idea that freedom lies not just in resisting work that goes against ones values but also in actively pursuing work that aligns with one’s heart.
The Hideout is stage managed by Lisa Patetta, with ASM and props by Christopher Benedicto, set and lighting design by Rebecca Walsh and sound design by Doris Huang.

You Are Not Alone is a selection of plays from this year’s Climate Change Theatre Action (CCTA) catalogue presented by theatre student collaborators Taya Viger, Raven Turchinetz, Han Wood, Hazel Franklin, and Bella Dimanno. The group will be presenting Undertow by Keith Barker, Magical Fungi in Times Square by Chantal Bilodeau, Beginnings by Andrea Ling, and You Are Not Alone by Nicole Pschetz.
