Buy a cedar paddle to support UFV students

Dr. Malwinder S. Dhami, one of UFV’s most generous donors, and his son Jason, with their cedar commemorative paddle.

Are you looking for a unique gift this year? Consider giving a commemorative cedar paddle designed by UFV alumnus Xotxwes Jonny Williams and produced in-house at UFV’s Trades and Technology Centre. Contributions of $50 or more will purchase a limited-production commemorative paddle and stand. All proceeds support UFV student awards.

The artist shared his vision for the paddle design:

“The man and woman are forming a circle to represent the circle of life, which started with our ancestors and will continue on to the future generations. Both the man and woman have their left hands open. This is to represent receiving, and both their right hands are open facing down to represent giving.

“It is Sto:lo belief that in order to receive gifts in life we also must give our gifts to others. Their heads are down showing humility to one another.  This is a sign of respect. The cedar hat and clothing signifies Sto:lo culture and the importance of cedar to our people.”

Visit UFV Advancement in B230, Abbotsford campus by December 21 to take home this special paddle to give or gift to yourself. Questions? Or to arrange for pick up, please contact Deanna McIntyre at 604-851-6354 or deanna.mcintyre@ufv.ca
