UFV’s Al Wiseman appointed to Canadian University Governance Association board

The expertise that helps guide decision-making at the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) is being recognized on a national stage. UFV University Secretary Al Wiseman has been appointed to the board of the Canadian University Governance Association (CUGA).
The CUGA is recognized as the Canadian leader in university governance, supporting autonomy, collaboration, and innovation. Their mission is to be the definitive, national organization representing, connecting, and advancing university governance professionals and leaders across Canada, with a focus on governance excellence.
“This organization has been an incredible source of information and support to me in my governance leadership role at UFV,” says Wiseman, UFV’s university secretary. “I accepted this role so I can give back to our membership as we seek to strengthen our training initiatives and grow our impact on governance in the Canadian higher education landscape. I’m joining great colleagues on the board and look forward to working alongside colleagues from across the country to advance governance excellence in higher education.”
Wiseman began a three-year term with CUGA in May 2026. UFV President Dr. James Mandigo says the university is a proud member of CUGA, recognizing the significance of this appointment and the national leadership it represents. He knows Wiseman will be a great addition to its board.
“Al’s exemplary service and longstanding contributions to governance through UFV’s Senate and the Board of Governors have strengthened the university’s governance practices and made a meaningful impact across the institution,” James says. “This appointment reflects his depth of expertise, dedication to the sector, and commitment to advancing good governance in higher education.”
