SASI Golf Tournament Renamed ‘Bajwa Dhami Building Bridges Golf Tournament’

For the past three years, the SASI has worked under the leadership of Dr. Dhami and Dr. Bajwa to organize the ‘Building Bridges Community Golf Day’ event. The annual golf tournament’s goal, which began in 2018, is to assist in the creation of an endowed Research Fellowship program housed at the South Asian Studies Institute. The goal of the Research Fellowship Program is to appoint academic Fellows as researchers to contribute to knowledge production based on contemporary urgent and relevant South Asian diaspora issues.

The first Research Fellowship report, written jointly by three Fellows, is available online and titled “Developing Strategies on Violence Prevention and Community Safety in Abbotsford, BC.”

This year’s golf tournament will be held on July 25 2021 at the Chilliwack Golf Course while fully abiding with COVID-19 protocols. The tournament has been renamed the ‘Bajwa Dhami Building Bridges Golf Tournament’ as a commitment by the founders to the tournament in their dedication to supporting community research.
