Update – Monday Nov. 15 6pm: UFV monitoring weather and road conditions

The safety of students, faculty, and staff is UFV’s top priority.

The university’s status will be updated on communication channels including UFV.ca by 6 am on Tuesday, Nov. 16.

The university is closely monitoring road and environmental conditions across the Fraser Valley this evening and overnight. UFV Risk and Safety, Facilities, Student Services,  Communications, and other departments continue to evaluate a number of factors created by this weather system and the flooding it has caused.

Register for UFV Alert and receive important information regarding severe weather or emergencies on your phone.

Please check UFV.ca for updates.

  1. Please make your decision ASAP. If you guys decide to open campus for some bizarre, unsafe political reason, I’ll have to unearth my kayak.

    • Hi Sally,
Kayaks are great and all, but as you can see on the main Urgent News blog https://blogs.ufv.ca/urgent-news/, and as sent to your student email – UFV is closed and all classes online and virtual are cancelled for today Nov. 16. Stay safe, warm, and maybe shelve the kayaking for a nicer day. 😉

  2. I was quite perturbed that UFV was open on Monday in the morning and at noon when we were under the severe weather warning and Mayor Braun declared a state of emergency. Not good planning.

    • Thanks Dawn. Natural disasters can be perturbing. In fact, they are very stressful and life-threatening. The state of emergency in Abbotsford was published at 10:50 on Monday. UFV considered all factors carefully and although we were not flooded, we understood the seriousness of the scenario and the prime concern was the safety of those travelling to and from UFV on flooded roadways. Starting at 12:05 pm on Monday UFV issued closure notices through 12 different communications channels including radio media (with the intent of people being able to hear the announcement in their cars) over UFV Alert (which sends email and text messages to your cell phone if you are registered) and on many other digital channels, including your UFV student email. I recommend signing up for UFV Alert if you have not already. That way you’ll receive timely emergency information on your phone.
