    • This applies to all campuses and centres including the Applied and Technical studies (trades) centre as well. Stay tuned for an update at 10:30 which will give more details.

  1. Does this mean if I have a class at 1 and show up at 12 I’ll be locked out of the buildings? Or will I have access to buildings/classrooms before 1?

I was supposed to conduct a research session at 12 today and really cannot afford to cancel it.

    • Hi Michael,
We are working to open campuses at 12 noon, before going ahead with classes at 1:00 pm but need to give our crews time to asses and then dig out, clear pathways, parking lots etc. We also want the roads to improve and are watching those conditions. Watch for an update at 10:30 am this morning.

      • So if campuses are open I will be able to access the classroom I need to conduct my research no earlier than 12? Or will I be able to access them a bit earlier (11:30-11:45ish) so I can set up for the session and start it on time?

I would like to know whether they are still able to participate today, and whether we will start at 12 as scheduled, or be forced to start later.

        • Unfortunately, I cannot answer that definitively at this time. We need to asses campus, road, and transit conditions before I can. We are watching to see if things get worse or better. We will address this in the 10:30 update.

  2. Thank you for posting these updates for faculty, staff, students and our community. These are important, and appreciated. 🙂

  3. Hi, I’m just wondering,
All transit buses are cancelled today, so even if I do deem it safe to go out, I can’t get to the university…
Since so many people rely on the bus to get to university, wouldn’t this be a factor in calling a snow day?

    • It’s a good question and one we will consider very carefully before the 10:30 update. We take road conditions, campus conditions, transit status, weather forecasts, and warnings into consideration when determining UFV’s status.

      • Thanks, but just to know,if road conditions are uncertain and UFV remains open, how the students those who live at considerable distance can commute even if they have mid-terms/classes, today? Since ascertaining road safety is subjective to driving skills and resources available.
        Thank you!

  4. I pray it remains closed, the roads are so bad and have mid-terms today, driving seems very very risky if coming from off-campus areas.

    • Yes, 11:30 class is cancelled. Earliest classes will go ahead is 1:00 pm. Please stay tuned and watch for the 10:30 am update to confirm afternoon status.

    • Hi, UFV intends to open for 1pm classes but we will confirm at 10:30 am this morning.
This would include services, but please check back at 10:30 today

  5. In Aldergrove and Chilliwack the roads are terrible as per my friends, drive very cautiously and all BC Transit buses have been suspended.

    • UFV evaluates many factors when making the decision to open or close. Data includes: Campus conditions, snow clearing status, road conditions across the entire Fraser Valley, forecasts and warnings.
Please use caution if you decide to commute to UFV. Safety is your most important priority. It is important to remember, you are responsible for determining when weather conditions make travel safe or unsafe.Use your judgement when making the decision to travel.
