FAQ — Personal property coverage

Q: Is my personal property covered under the Universities Insurance Protection program (UCIPP)?

A: The personal property of visitors, students and employees is not covered by the university except where an item is used by an employee specifically for instructional or employment purposes.  

Personal property brought onto campus is at the user’s own risk.

Q: What is the maximum coverage available per employee?

A: Personal property used for authorized instructional or employment purposes, may be covered up to a maximum of $3,000 per employee only in excess of their available personal insurance coverage.

Q: In what circumstance can I as an employee file a claim for damaged personal property?

A: You may file a claim:

  • If you can show that the property was being used for instructional or employment purposes; and
  • If you have coverage and have first claimed upon, and exhausted, their own personal insurance.

If proceeding with a claim, information required would include: value of item with original receipt, photos, the replacement cost, and availability and use of personal home or tenants’ insurance.

FAQ Library materials

Q: How do I report flood damaged library materials on loan?

A: If any library materials that you have currently on loan have been damaged by the flood, please report the damage as soon as possible through the Septflood@ufv.ca  email address, in addition to notifying the Library.

Please provide:

  • Proof that the item is damaged beyond repair or use; if possible provide a photo of the item, and return the item to the Library

FAQ Damaged UFV property (other than desks, bookshelves, furniture)

Q: How do I report damaged UFV property?

A: Please report any other UFV owned property (purchased by UFV) that has been damaged by the flood in your office to septflood@ufv.ca. This may include books, Scantron forms, instructional supplies, etc.

Please include your office number as well as a photo of the damaged item. If possible provide an original receipt or estimate of the cost for the item.
