STRONGER EVERY DAY – Donate Blood/Plasma Today

Welcome to our next edition of Stronger Every Day – which is more than just an initiative, it’s a culture program that we felt was lacking at UFV. Our goal is simple: to create space for healthier habits, meaningful connection, and collective support by using this space for encouragement, shared goals, and real-life practices that help us feel better — and support one another along the way.

HR did their part in saving a life or two last week! Thanks to Laurie and Stacie for taking the time to donate plasma which is desperately needed as it is a crucial component for life-saving therapies, treating disease, bleeding disorders, burn victims and so much more. It contains proteins such as albumin, immunoglobulins, and clotting factors – only available in our blood and cannot be created in a lab! The process took about one hour, but if you want to donate blood only (which is needed just as much) it only takes a few minutes.

I recently spent some time in the hospital visiting my mother-in-law who is currently undergoing cancer treatment (which is going well), but she developed pneumonia which really took a toll on her. She was very, very sick for a few weeks and needed two blood transfusions. That experience really made me realize how important it is for us all to do our part.

So grab a friend, a colleague, or a family member and pop on in to your Canadian Blood Services location to donate today! We’d love to hear your story and why donating is important to you.

UFV PLASMA PLAYOFFS – STILL TIME TO DONATE!

UFV is partnering with Canadian Blood Services with a goal to improve or save the lives of so many Canadian patients by donating blood from January 4, 2026 – February 14, 2026 at the Plasma Donor Centre, 32700 South Fraser Way, Unit 75.

Plasma donors make all the difference. The plasma collected in the Abbotsford donor centre alone is manufactured into 50 different medications which are distributed to 730 hospitals and clinics across Canada. Donating only takes an hour of your time but can be a lifesaving gift in someone’s life who depends on plasma transfusions or medicines made from donated plasma.
