Walking is the number one activity that the majority of Employee Fitness Challenge participants take part in. We ran a walking challenge last semester, but this time we thought we’d change it up a bit and make it more enticing to everyone! This challenge will have two tiers with your chance to win a night’s accommodation at Harrison Hot Springs and/or Whistler!
Tier One (3 weeks) – Walk 63.7 km. to Harrison
Who doesn’t love Harrison? There is so much to see and do and the beauty of the surrounding mountains is unmatched anywhere, especially the majestic Mount Cheam, that looks down on Chilliwack and Harrison Hot Springs. It is one of the most prominent peaks in the Fraser Valley with significant spiritual importance to the local First Nations or Stó:lō people who call it “mother mountain” and has been given the responsibility of watching over her people.
Over 21 days, from September 20, 2021 – October 10, 2021 your goal will be to walk the equivalent distance between Abbotsford and Harrison Hot Springs. The total distance is 63.7km. which equates to just over 3 kilometres per day of walking.
Tier Two (6 weeks) – Walk 190 km. to Whistler
Whistler is an amazing destination as well. If you like the outdoors, the legendary resort is your dream come true! Whistler draws us all (hikers, skiers, mountain bikers, walkers) to it’s legendary landscapes and coastal climate where you can enjoy sparkling glacier-fed lakes, waterfalls, beaches, old growth forests golf courses, trails, amazing restaurants and so much more.
Over 42 days, from September 20, 2021 – October 31, 2021 your goal will be to walk the equivalent distance between Abbotsford and Whistler. The total distance is 190 km. which equates to just over 4.52 kilometres per day of walking.
|*NOTE: if you are unable to walk/run, but do other forms of exercise, for the purposes of this challenge, 1 hour of exercise (gym, bike riding, yoga, etc.) = 5 km.|
All participants will be eligible for prizes, whether they finish or not, but in order to be included in the prize draws you will need to submit your weekly progress report by Tuesday, October 12 at 12:00 noon (for the Harrison Challenge) and by Tuesday, November 2 at 12:00 noon (for the Whistler Challenge). The report will have a check box to indicate if you participated, and if you completed!
