UFV Unite – Connecting the UFV Community

From a department at UFV whose four-walls is a place to provide our community with the opportunity to be active, being temporarily closed (like many of us) has been quite the shift to say the least!

UFV’s Athletics and Campus Recreation department has the rewarding opportunity to both represent our university with sport through varsity athletics but, to also offer an outlet to motivate individuals in a recreation and wellness capacity, such as trying out an activity with friends or to reach their fitness goals on a daily basis.

While Human Resources has similar goals of health and wellness for all staff and faculty, our department was asked to put together an initiative while we work remotely; to keep connected and engaged in an active and fun way, how could we say, no!

Now, fast-forward to just over a week and with the help of Facebook our UFV Unite – Connecting the UFV Community was created. With over 150 staff and faculty members, who have joined our “virtual” recreation facility already, we are grateful for the interest and connections so far and if you haven’t joined yet, it’s never too late!

So, even though physically our doors are shut at the time, we still want to provide you with the tools to stay committed to your goals and maybe even inspire those who weren’t quite ready to get moving previously.

Our aim, with UFV Unite is to build community while at a physical distance, and to remember that the importance of exercising the body and mind to support our overall wellbeing. Also, as a bonus we will be offering incentives and weekly giveaways for your participation during this WFH journey.

Each week, keep an eye out for our posts which will include:

  • Units and challenges for you to complete, such as this week’s Bingo Card challenge
  • Pop-up events for your participation, which could include fitness classes or social hour!
  • Relevant resources for health and fitness tips

So, dust off those runners, prep some healthy snacks and get your boombox ready for some creative and interactive ways to earn prizes and bragging rights and remember we are #ufvunite!

If you have ideas for upcoming activities or prizes? We’d love to hear from you! Email: campusrec@ufv.ca or send us a Facebook message @ufvrec
