UFV’s first ever ‘Garbage Audit’ produced some interesting results

waste2On Wednesday, October 7, 2015, the Centre for Sustainability (sponsored by the Faculty of Science), the Students for Environmental Advocacy (SEA), and the Facilities Department sponsored the first ever garbage audit of one day’s worth of garbage of two buildings (A and B). The event ran from 10 in the morning till 4 PM when the sorting was finished. In total, approximately 24 person hours were involved in sorting the garbage. Only about 20% needed to be thrown out as garbage (picture B) versus the 80% that could have been recycled (picture A).

We thank all of the participants who came out to sort through the garbage.
