Our Bachelor of Regional and Community Planning (BRCP) program has received national accreditation, reinforcing UFV’s role in preparing future planning professionals for meaningful careers in Canada and beyond.
The BRCP program is accredited by the Professional Standards Board for the Planning Profession in Canada (PSB), in partnership with the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) and affiliated provincial and territorial planning institutes across the country.
Accreditation confirms that UFV’s BRCP program meets rigorous national academic and professional standards for planning education. The accreditation process involved a comprehensive program self‑study, a site visit, and review by external peers, assessing curriculum quality, faculty expertise, experiential learning opportunities, and continuous program improvement.
Accredited planning programs are regularly reviewed to ensure they remain responsive to the evolving needs of communities and the planning profession—providing assurance to students, employers, and professional bodies alike.
Graduating from an accredited planning program is an essential step toward becoming a Registered Professional Planner (RPP) in Canada. As graduates of UFV’s BRCP program, students are eligible to pursue Candidate membership with the Canadian Institute of Planners and affiliated provincial and territorial institutes, supporting their progression toward professional certification.
UFV’s BRCP program emphasizes:
- Regional, community, and urban planning foundations
- Sustainability, smart cities, and human‑centred design
- Experiential learning through practicum placements
- Policy, design, and applied planning skills
- Indigenous ways of knowing through collaboration with the Stó:lō First Nation
Together, these elements prepare graduates to address complex challenges such as housing affordability, transportation, climate change, and community resilience.
The Faculty of Science extends sincere thanks to the BRCP accreditation team, led by Dr. Cherie Enns, whose leadership and commitment were instrumental in achieving this accreditation. This success reflects the collective efforts of faculty, staff, students, and community partners who contributed to the review process and demonstrated the program’s strengths and impact.
The accreditation highlights the dedication of the BRCP team to excellence and continuous improvement in planning education.
With accreditation in place, UFV’s Bachelor of Regional and Community Planning program remains well positioned to educate planners who are ready to make a positive difference in their communities—locally, nationally, and globally.
