Please join the UFV Biology Department, in collaboration with Dr. Carin Bondar and the local nonprofit We Are Unbound, in welcoming Dr. Maurine Neiman from the University of Iowa on September 24, 2026, at 5:30 p.m.
Dr. Neiman will present “Evolving in Practice: Supporting & Empowering Science and Scientists,” exploring how we can strengthen and support both scientific research and the people behind it.
Graduate student in the Neiman Lab and author of Weird Atlas, Peter Nitsche, will also join the conversation virtually.

More about Maurine:
Maurine has spent much of her career making science more diverse, inclusive, and accessible; opening doors for young adults from all backgrounds and finding ways to bring science out of academic spaces and into the community.
At the University of Iowa, Maurine founded the Neiman Lab, where students and researchers use a tiny New Zealand freshwater snail to tackle some pretty big evolutionary questions, like why sex persists when asexual reproduction is so much more efficient. Their work brings together evolution, ecology, genomics, and behaviour to better understand sex, genetics, and how populations change over time. (neiman.lab.uiowa.edu)
