Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC looking for Outreach Instructors – April 27 to August 28, 2026

The Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC (FFSBC) is an independent, non-profit organization governed by a Board of Directors. They are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Outreach Instructors to join their Recreational Fishing Development team out of various locations, including Abbotsford, Clearwater, Summerland, Cranbrook (Fort Steele), Vanderhoof, and Victoria.

As members of the Science and Recreational Fishing Development Division, the Outreach Instructors will be responsible for delivering Learn to Fish programs and other FFSBC outreach programs to the public, including youth and their families, schools, and community groups, as well as engaging with anglers and the public. The Instructors will also be responsible for the maintenance of Learn to Fish equipment and ponds, including cleaning exclusion screens, feeding fish, and general pond upkeep, maintenance of Visitor Centre aquaria, as well as field work activities, including angler effort monitoring, angler surveys, water sample collection, and water quality testing.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have graduated from grade 12, and preference may be given to candidates who are students or graduates in a relevant field of study (Science, Fisheries Management, Biology, Education, Communications, Marketing, or Education etc.). Other areas of education may be considered. A valid Class 5 or 7 driver’s licence, as well as strong communication skills, including experience with public speaking and working with the public, is required. Some
recreational fishing experience is preferred. Equivalent combinations of education, training, and/or experience may be considered. Hiring will be subject to a criminal record check (working with children) and drivers abstract.

Flexible schedule required, including frequent evening, weekend, and holiday shifts, with an average of up to 70 hours anticipated over a 2-week period. Travel is required; must be willing to work at remote locations for 2 to 5-day periods at a time.

*In addition to the hourly salary, this position qualifies for compensation of $0.72 per working hour up to a maximum of $50.40 per biweekly pay period in lieu of sick time and benefits, and vacation pay at the rate of six percent of regular earnings. The collective agreement is currently in the process of ratification, and if ratified, a 3% wage increase will be applied effective the date of hire. While on travel status, meal per diems will be payable in accordance with applicable policy.

Candidates must also meet these requirements:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations, and
  • been enrolled in full-time studies at an accredited educational institution within the past 36 months at a secondary or post-secondary level.
