Welcome to Day 6 of the London International Youth Science Forum!
Today was one of the busiest and one of the most exciting days! We began the morning with a good breakfast and made it just in time to gather at Queens Lawn for our first specialist lecture of the day.
The session I had chosen focused on dust in the London Underground and its impact on public health, particularly how long-term exposure to dust particles affects the lungs and heart. The lecture touched on important themes like air pollution, epidemiology and the silent effects of urban environments on our bodies. While the topic was a little more aligned with environmental science (and I did start to lose focus by the end), it was still eye opening to learn how deeply everyday surroundings can affect our health.
Next up was hot lunch, which was such a treat! Finally, serving as a break from the usual sandwich routine!
In the afternoon, we regrouped for the principal lecture on the JUICE Mission (Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer) and wow, what a session! We delved into space science, the legacy of the Cassini mission and how robots are launched into space to explore the mysteries of our solar system. It was hands down a crowd favourite! The talk really sparked some interesting conversations about the future of space exploration and the endless possibilities science holds.
After the lecture, we made our way to the Royal Albert Hall for the annual LIYSF group photo! The entire LIYSF team including the staff and students , packed the stairs to the point where even others stopped to watch! It was super chaotic but so memorable and somehow, we managed to snap that perfect group shot!
On the way back to the hotel, I treated myself to Amorino’s gelato, one of London’s most loved ice cream spots. Safe to say, 10/10 for real !!
Dinner was served around 7 PM, but the real highlight of the day came just after, the Student Communication Evening ! This special event featured some selected projects from the Science Bazaar. Each student had three minutes to present their topic, with no slides or posters, just props. It was both impressive and inspiring to see the variety of ideas and how creatively students communicated their work. I also got to catch up on projects I missed earlier while presenting my own.
The evening wrapped up around 9:30 PM, later than usual with another early start tomorrow for our science visits !! I’m especially excited as I’ll be heading to a very special location tomorrow (more on that soon)!
And finally, I couldn’t end the post without sharing a few bonus photos from my time exploring London and some moments from the forum. Scroll down to check them out!
