Flying High: Jets, G-Force, and a Tarantula on Board
From soaring through the skies at breakneck speeds to discovering long-lost wreckage sites, Scratch gave us a behind-the-scenes look at the thrilling life of a fighter pilot turned TV host when he visited our ScienceRocks! Camp (Camp 4: Dimensions, Degrees, Destruction and Doodads in Chilliwack)
He kicked things off by introducing a new TV project he’s developing – complete with a sneak peek trailer. The show dives into the adrenaline-filled world of jets, personal stories from the cockpit, and even daring missions to find aircraft wreckage. While the series is still in the works, it’s clear he’s aiming to land a production deal soon.
What inspires someone to chase the skies? For him, it’s in the blood becoming a fighter pilot was part of his family legacy. That passion was clear in the photos and video clips he shared, showcasing everything from flight maneuvers to behind-the-scenes footage of aerial filming.
A big Highlight? His video demonstrating the extreme impact of G-Force with one brave soul enduring a jaw-dropping 8G test. Equal parts fascinating and freaky, it had the room both laughing and cringing. He also shared his time performing with the iconic Snowbirds team. Beyond the speed and spectacle, he emphasized the deeper values of trust, communication, and teamwork skills that go well beyond the runway.
Just as we were wrapping up, he casually mentioned a “spiders on a plane” story involving a live tarantula onboard. Sadly, we ran out of time before we could hear the full story… but we’re hoping that one makes it into the TV show!
Whether it’s the science of flight, the art of teamwork, or the occasional eight-legged surprise, this session was an unforgettable look into life above the clouds.
