Vancouver Avian Research Centre is hiring!

The Vancouver Avian Research Centre has 2 full-time Research Assistant positions and 1 full-time Outreach Assistant for students who are returning to (full-time) school in the fall.

Job Title: Avian Research Assistant (2 positions available)
Period: April 1st – September 2nd
Hours – 5-days per week (7 hours each day)

Job Description:
Successful candidates will have some previous banding experience and will be expected to attend VARC’s
banding station 3-days each week to assist our permitted banding staff and volunteers in all aspects of the bird
monitoring and banding program.

Banding activities:

  • banding and taking biometric measurements
  • ageing and sexing of passerines
  • net extraction
  • Tree Swallow nest box monitoring
  • daily census
  • station maintenance including trail and net lane clearing

Administrative duties:

  • including data entry, data analysis, report writing and visitor coordination

Other duties:

  • Assisting with our bluebird nest box monitoring program in Merritt, BC
  • Presenting our Youth and Schools Public Outreach program to various groups in locations in the lower mainland throughout the summer months

Job Title: Outreach Assistant (1 position available)
Period: April 15th – September 2nd
Hours – 5-days per week (7 hours each day)

Job Description:

Building on the success of our existing program, we require a student to present our structured Schools and Youth program in various locations around the lower mainland at schools, SPCA Kids camps and other venues.

A vehicle will be required (gas allowance provided)
