- MATH Challengers is an inter-school team-based math competition with a “Grade 8 and under” category and a “Grade 9 and under” category.
- Schools register up to 3 teams in each category, with up to 5 members on each team (so an individual school may potentially register up to 30 contestants).
- Teams gather in February to compete in their nearest regional competition. Regional competitions are hosted in Vancouver, Abbotsford, Victoria, and Kelowna.
- The top teams from each Regionals competition advance to Provincial Finals, typically held in March or April, at UBC or SFU.
- The top contestants from each Regional competition and Provincials are invited to a special event in April or May.
The program builds skills, promotes strategic problem-solving, and exposes students to complex problems that require creativity and persistence in order to be solved — all a critical part of our increasingly technological society. Moreover, it provides an opportunity to bring 8th and 9th graders together to promote a lively exchange of mathematical ideas through competition.
