Funding Now Available!  Natural Resources Canada’s (NRCan) – Science and Technology Internship Program (STIP)

 Are you (or do you know of) an organization, business, university or community college that could benefit from funding to support an internship in the area of natural sciences?

Do you know a post-secondary graduate who is looking for practical experience to support his/her career development in the natural sciences?

The Science and Technology Internship Program (STIP) provides funding to organizations, businesses and institutions to support recent graduates in the natural sciences to gain relevant and meaningful work experience within their field of study.  Since 1997, Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) has been contributing to approximately 50 to 60 internships annually to assist youth find valuable work experience.

Eligible employers (referred to as partners) can receive a contribution payment for up to 50% of the intern’s salary to a maximum of $13,200 per year.  Partners are responsible for finding their own interns.

Eligible interns include youth between the ages of 15 and 30 who are:

  • out of school, unemployed or underemployed
  • graduates with a post-secondary degree or diploma in a relevant field within the past two years
  • legally entitled to work in Canada, and
  • not previous participants in an internship under the Youth Employment Strategy

Interns apply directly to employers and are employees of the partner.  Approximately 80% of interns have found permanent employment immediately after their internship.
