CHASI Faculty Associate Dr. Iris Lesser and UFV student research assistant Megan Filiatrault have released a new report sharing their findings from an initial series of workshops aimed at engaging new mothers in physical activity and presenting a realistic look at what their return to movement may look like.
The report, titled Postpartum Physical Activity Workshop Feedback and Community Engagement, showcases the feedback from three workshops for new mothers. At the workshops, mothers were introduced to safe physical activities in a welcoming and compassionate space. Key to the workshops was a series of photos and videos, created in collaboration with CHASI, highlighting new mothers demonstrating various exercises and challenging social media trends like “#fitmom” with more typical postpartum bodies.
Below you will find the full report, including feedback from workshop participants, and the researchers’ plans for future directions with this ongoing project.
