Last week marked the 8th Annual International Week for the University of the Fraser Valley School of Business in collaboration with the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts – Institute of Management and Regional Economics. During the week the School of Business hosted an exciting program on leadership in the context of globalization for students from both institutions.
This program included several site visits, immersing participants into various topics. Activities included a visit to Garaventa Lift—a Swiss company operating globally in Canada; a tour of the GCT Deltaport facility; a day experiencing Canadian First Nations’ business traditions and culture in Whistler, BC; the opportunity to network with School of Business alumni at an International Business Alumni Reception; and a panel session on, “Bringing the world to the Fraser Valley, and the Fraser Valley to the world”.
Through the various presentations, discussions, and activities participants left being able to:
- Outline the Canadian business context,
- Differentiate International business perspectives,
- Demonstrate cultural awareness,
- Develop cross-cultural business competences, and
- Manage internationalization in their home country
The final day, participants gathered all of the information they learned throughout the week and presented their conclusions. The week was capped-off with the closing ceremony and awards.
