“In our workshop for breaking the cycle of procrastination we are hoping to help students develop more awareness of what is happening underneath the behavior of procrastination and develop better ways to support themselves and remain engaged in learning. We are looking at two different aspects of procrastination cycles. Firstly, the internal process underlying the behavior (i.e. emotional and self-critical beliefs and expectations). We will be helping students develop ways to relate to themselves with more support and compassion and learn ways to manage emotions to put them in an optimal state for learning. This will help them to continue reaching their goals, rather than simply beating themselves up, and perpetuating the cycle of avoidance. In the latter half of the workshop we are looking more at external factors involved in procrastination and how to set themselves up for success. This involves things such as time management/organization skills, study habits, self-care strategies, and ways of approaching homework that support their learning and overall wellbeing. The group will involve personal reflective and group process activities that tailor the material to their individual situation and cycle.”
