Long-time and much-loved UFV employee Margaret Brackett passed away Saturday, July 19.
She was 69 years old.
A constant, calm presence, Margaret retired in 2013 after touching many lives during her 17-year career. Beginning as a switchboard receptionist in 1996, she held temporary work in various departments before moving into Visual Arts, Graphic Design, and Fashion Design, then eventually to Faculty Services. Margaret’s connection to UFV carried on past her retirement dinner last October, as she returned to assist Faculty Services on a temporary basis.
UFV Manager of Academic and Administrative Services Deborah Greenfield remembers Margaret as compassionate, helpful, and caring.
“She was always taking the time to check in with her co-workers,” Greenfield says.
“She enjoyed being able to assist faculty, staff, and especially students with the variety of questions and concerns that came to Faculty Services. Over the past couple of days, the comment I’ve been hearing repeatedly from her UFV family is that she was such a kind person. It’s true – she was.”
Margaret’s commitment to UFV won’t end with her passing; her family is requesting that donations in lieu of flowers be made to the UFV Changing Lives Scholarship Endowment (details below).
Margaret’s contributions extended beyond her office, as she served on the FSA Social Committee for several years, playing a key role in organizing the annual dinner dances. She kept track of birthdays, special events and important milestones, making people feel special because she was sincerely interested in them and what was important in their lives.
While she cherished her work relationships, Margaret’s true passion was her family. She’s survived by her husband Dennis, their children, one grandson, and her sisters.
Margaret Brackett’s memorial service will be held Saturday, July 26 at 1pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 30635 Blueridge Drive, Abbotsford (across the street from the Sikh Temple).
Donation envelopes will be available at the service. You can also donate online at ufv.ca/giving (please specify the donation is in Margaret’s memory in your comment), or mail or drop off your donation to the UFV Advancement Office, Room B306, 33844 King Road, Abbotsford, B.C. V2S 7M8.
