A group of nine Social Work students will be hosting a family friendly BBQ fundraiser and games event for local transition houses on July 12, from noon to 4 pm on the UFV Abbotsford campus green (rain or shine).
We hope to raise awareness, as well as raise funds and item donations to disperse equally between four transition houses. Often women and children flee their homes with only the clothes on their back and few important items to escape domestic violence. Transition houses are a temporary shelter to support women and their children in these times of crisis.
The beneficiaries of our event include: Mission and Abbotsford Transition House on behalf of the Women’s Resource Society of the Fraser Valley, Ann Davis Transition House on behalf of the Ann Davis Transition Society, and Wilma’s House on behalf of the Xolohemet Society.
Items Collecting:
New Women and Children’s Clothing (boys and girls, all sizes): winter clothes (gloves, scarves, mitts, toques, hats, etc) , T-Shirts, pants, maternity wear, unused undergarments and socks, pajamas, housecoats, shoes, boots, sandals, slippers
Household Items: Linens (towels, bedding/pillows/sheets), pots, dishes, cutleries, pans, small appliances (coffee maker, toaster, mixers, microwaves, fans)
