The Role of Educators, Intellectuals, and Universities in Times of Genocide and Fascism — Mar 10

On September 16, 2025, and after nearly two years, the United Nations’ Independent International Commission determined that the Israeli government is committing a genocide of Palestinians in Gaza. This genocide has been supported and funded by the Trump administration, whose fascist policies increasingly exclude, target, and enact violence upon racialized and gendered bodies, as well as the land, in the service of authoritarianism, ethnonationalism, and colonial racial capitalism.

What role can and should educators, intellectuals, and universities play in such dark times? What responsibilities do they have to students, local communities, and those directly targeted by such violence?

This roundtable will explore the role and responsibilities of educators, intellectuals, and universities in a troubling and dangerous present marred by settler colonial genocide and late fascism.

The School of Culture, Media, and Society invites faculty, students, and staff to attend the panel event “The Role of Educators, Intellectuals, and Universities in Times of Genocide and Fascism” on March 10 from 3–5 pm.
