This timely gathering will bring together two distinguished speakers whose work addresses the enduring impact of settler colonialism and the resilience of Indigenous cultures:

Dr. Gwendolyn Point
Knowledge keeper for the BC Assembly of First Nation Chiefs, former Chancellor of UFV, and long-time educator and advocate for Indigenous language and culture. Dr. Point has served her home community of Sts’ailes and the broader Stó:lō Nation in leadership and educational roles for over three decades.

Dr. André Elias Mazawi
Professor and department head of Educational Studies at UBC. Dr. Mazawi is a sociologist of education whose scholarship critically examines the intersection of education, coloniality, and geopolitics — particularly in the Arab region. He is co-editor of Policies and Pedagogies of Canadian Offshore School Programs (Routledge, 2024).

Together, Dr. Point and Dr. Mazawi will guide a dialogue on the ongoing realities of dispossession and resistance, bridging insights from Palestine and Indigenous communities in Canada.

This event is hosted by the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee of the Faculty of Education, Community, and Human Development, with sponsorship from the Centre for Justice, Equity & Sustainable Action. The room number will be circulated to registered participants by e-mail the day before the event.
