Provost’s Lunch and Learn: South Asian Canadian Legacy Project

Please join us as Dr. Satwinder Bains discusses the South Asian Canadian Legacy Project. The SACLP has a multipronged approach through six projects that reflect the valuable contributions of South Asian Canadians to British Columbia’s diverse cultures, history, heritage, economy and society. While foregrounding the work with an acknowledgement of Indigenous rights-based claims, the SACLP produced a public history book, created a digital archive, researched historic sites, developed K-12 curriculum, recorded the long and effective labour activism history, and produced a travelling exhibit. Each of the six projects adds to the Canadian record in interesting and unique ways, filling gaps in the record that have long been erased, omitted or neglected. The projects remain actively engaged with stakeholders including the community, educators, cultural historians and people of all ages through active outreach and ongoing engagement.
